Weight Training Exercise Benefits


If you were to look at your options to get a healthier heart while improving balance and co-ordination and strengthening your bones at the same time then weight training would be the best choice. Training with weights on a regular basis will do that for you and a lot more as it will make you look good as well.

If we disregard the fact that training with weights on a regular basis will help you lose unnecessary fat and make you look healthier and shapelier because it will speed up the rate at which you burn calories (BMR) even when you are sleeping. The difference weight training makes to normal muscle and bone loss is significant.

Studies done on how effectively weight training can speed up your basal metabolic rate (BMR) show conclusively that training at least three times a week will speed up your BMR by an average of 15%. This also has a detoxifying effect on your body as your body starts to improve health.

Clinical research proves to us that after puberty men and women lose 1% of their muscle and bone every year but training with weights three times a week can easily reverse this loss. This was proven in a huge study done at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston on both men and women.

Resistance training can take many forms and is not limited to just lifting weights to improve strength and fitness. The two different types of resistance training are Isometric resistance and Isotonic resistance. Both require training on a regular basis which will directly improve balance, co-ordination and general body mechanics.

Training with weights regularly will also improve disease prevention as shown in many different studies relating to diseases like arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, post-menopausal women and obesity. Weight training will also boost energy levels releasing natural opiates like endorphins.

It is not necessary to join a gym to train with weights, one can do push-ups, lunges and jump squats in your garage. It only needs a commitment and regular training to see results in developing more muscle, losing fat and speeding up metabolism.
